So, how did those London Summer Olympics stack up to the rest of the games? NBC Universal reports 219.4 million Americans watched the London Summer Olympics across its networks, becoming the most-watched event in U.S. television history. The 2008 Beijing Olympics tallied 215 million total Americans, based on data from Nielsen. Other viewership from the NBCU include: 31.0 million average viewers tuned in for the Closing Ceremony which beat Beijing by +12% and Athens by +58%. NBC also averaged 31.1 million viewers over the 17 nights of primetime Olympics coverage, the most-watched non-US Summer Olympics since the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
Since those are all national numbers, we wondered how the Olympic games were viewed locally. We contacted KTVB Channel 7 and below is what we found out, both in the Boise market and Twin Falls market. It is also noted that KTVB was # 1 in the nation in local audience share.
It is estimated that:
• KTVB was the #1 station in the country in the Opening Ceremony
• KTVB was the #1 station in the country in Prime Time
• KTVB was the #1 station in the country in the Closing Ceremony
